Sheats/Goldstein Residence

by gregory davalos

Having grown up in Los Angeles, I had always heard about the iconic Sheats/ Goldstein Residence. Built in 1963, the John Lautner-designed estate in Beverly Crest has been a back drop for more movies and magazine editorials than any other property in the city.

Built on three acres into a sandstone ledge high above the sunset strip, the house is a midcentury masterpiece. With 5 bedrooms and four and a half baths all open to cliffside views, the aesthetic is what you might describe as concrete chic. Cement slabs come together at angles so sharp you could cut yourself. The idea is obviously to feel part of the view because the mahogany walkways between rooms and koi ponds have no railings separating you from the steep drop into the Beverly Hills neighborhood below.

Touring this property with my Samsung NX1 was like being a kid in a candy shop. With every turn of a corner a new jaw dropping view emerged. It was thrill being on site after stalking this property on the internet. The camera's exceptional auto focus made shooting the home's sharp edges a breeze. It was really hard not to instantly upload any images to Instagram with the camera's built in Wi-Fi feature.

Take a rare look inside the Sheats/ Goldstein residence below!

COMEBACK KID

by gregory davalos

Logo mania hit its peak earlier in the millennium when designers started putting their logo on every square inch of their collections. The movement gained traction within the hip hop community and became an instant indication of status in the early 90's. Then suddenly, the logo was dead.

Recently, however, designers have given a nod to 90's street wear and resurrected the big, bold logo. A word of advice: this trend should be handled with care. One cheeky slogan is cool--being a walking billboard is not.

MARSHALL WEEKEND PLAYLIST

by gregory davalos

It's Friday, the weekend is but a few hours away, and the urge to T.U (turn-up) is likely setting in. So, you plug in your headphones and turn to music.

Let's imagine said music as a soundtrack for the perfect night out. Friday night becomes a scene out of a movie, and each phase of the evening— from getting ready to Ubering to the club — gets its own song. Like scenes in a movie, each scene requires its own melodic accompaniment.  The following playlist is designed to take you from an evening out to the wee hours of the morning!

THE QUINTESSENTIAL WINTER COAT

by gregory davalos

A transitional coat may sound like an indulgence, and that's precisely what this epsom coat by Reiss is. Made of soft, rich wool and sporting bluff detail pockets, it's effortlessly stylish, but it's also hardworking and versatile. It's a quintessential layering piece, ideal for crisper temperatures when worn over a T-shirt or a sweater. Of course, when it finally cools down in California, I may just want to add a scarf and keep it in the rotation.
